|
|
| Our leg of the Parker family can be
traced back to 1850, We also see pop up on the radar a George C. Leidy, age 34, in Philadelphia. He lists his occupation at "Collector". Notice that he has a 10 year old daughter Amanda. George C. Leidy is most likely the son of George Leidy from Hilltown, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania. George Leidy was born about 1770. |
This may be the wrong Robert Parker. The Delaware birthplace appears to be wrong.

| No record of Robert or George Parker shows up again until 1880, when it is shown that Robert and Amanda have 5 children. He has changed carriers to being a sailmaker and taken on his son George L. to work with him in the same fashion. In 1890 Robert H. Parker is listed in the first city directory, with sailmaker still listed as his occupation. His residence is on the banks of the Delaware River. This currently is a parking lot for a nice marina. (See aerial map). 1900 is the last census we find a record of Robert Parker at the age of 67. All of his children have left and his sister-in-law has moved in. |

By 1900 George Leidy Parker I has done well on his own. He has married Hettie M. Burtis and had three childeren. It would appear that he either worked for or with Barbar Burtis, both real estate brokers. Barbar moved in with George and Hettie, perhaps do to poor health. George had done well enough to have two live in servants. A "clippings" record and image is available of a building George Parker sold in 1900. Separately, there is a record of a land survey which George Parker requested in 1908. By 1910 Barbar Burtis and Robert H. have passed away, but George L. Parker II has taken on the career of real estate broker, along with his father. |

| In 1917 the "Great World War" had started in earnest, and George L. Parker II had been sent a draft registration notice. He reports for a medical inspection and fills out a card which is still visible with his signature and description. He lists that his wife is Elva Sowden Eells Parker. G.L.P. II and Elva had two children. |

| By 1920, all of the kids have moved out of G.L.P. I 's house and he is now down to a single servant but apparently still working at the age of 60 as a real estate broker. His son, G.L.P. II and Elva Parker now have an 8 year old daughter. They are living with her parents, Walter J. Eells and Armenia, a second couple and three servants in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania. Sounds like a very full house. |
